The One UN Joint Programme on Environment among other key elements also aims at developing an inclusive common platform of key partners to connect policies, programmes and projects and actions by government, aid agencies, NGOs and UN agencies, and commercial activities of the private sector into an agreed sustainable development framework. To realize this output the grass-root initiative programme (GRIP) is initiated that will assist the civil society organization (CSOs) in the shape of small grants for integrated environmental management. Under GRIP, the CSOs will implement interventions for the achievements of MDGs by demonstrating holistic environmental management at local level including awareness raising campaigns and capacity development towards the same cause.
Grass-root Initiative Programme is the joint effort of the Ministry of Environment and United Nations to deliver as one at the grass-root for environmental management. The programme therefore shall assist Civil Society Organizations with technical and financial assistance towards improved environmental management in the following three thematic areas:
1) Solid waste management and sanitation
2) Community based Natural Resource Management
3) Grass-root Climate Change Mitigation initiatives
